This was something I was thinking about too. While I do not condone the act of violence, we must recognise that the student’s breakdown was not something that occurred in isolation; something must have precipitated and triggered it. I think ‘Lucky Tan’ has captured part of the possible back-story here, but I am sure there is more to be uncovered.
At the end of the day, the University should stop saying that the Professor wasn’t to blame; rather, it should be focusing on its possible complicity in the attack through not enacting a more human and humane approach to the situation e.g. sending a counsellor to visit the student and talking him through his difficulties.
“In short, say yes to anything and accept everything life has to give”.
I don’t agree entirely but there are some pointers worth following.
I quite like this story and am thinking of submitting one of my own to this site.
Why is owning a passport a privilege and not a right? I don’t understand.
