When we were robots.
An s/f poem about robots celebrating their liberation from human colonisation. You might want to check out this Wikipedia page on “Passover Seder” for some contextual knowledge.

I just came back from watching Recalling Mother. I was not only moved by the piece, I was also very impressed by the space in which it was performed.
There’s an exhibition going on now called The Air-Conditioned Recession: A Singapore Survey and it showcases works of art that reflect the attitude in Singapore toward the strictures and structures of modern life.
I must say that this is ONE OF THE MOST THOUGHT-PROVOKING Singaporean art exhibitions I’ve seen in my entire life (26 years) and I was very impressed by the works + proud of all the artists who have contributed to this exhibition.
Please go check it out if you can. I promise you will not be disappointed.
P.S. unfortunately the exhibition only runs until today, so if you have nothing to do on a Sunday afternoon, GO FOR THIS.
P.P.S. I heard that there are LIMITED seats available for Recalling Mother too, so if you have $31 to spare, GO FOR THAT as well.

I’ve been trying to arrange meetings/consultations sessions with students and it’s not always possible because of our different timetables. I’m now trying to find a free online appointment booking system that integrates with Google Calendars to serve two purposes:
I don’t think anyone has come up with something like this yet so if any computing whiz wants to work on this, I’d say go for it (and let me know when you do come up with this so that I can use it! It’s my brainchild after all!). You can most likely sell it to companies/organisations that need this service when you’re done creating the program for it.

This is probably old news for everyone else but I only just got round to reading about it today.
Nevertheless, it’s rather unfortunate that I don’t have 1337 Photoshop skills, otherwise I’d have conjured up something with a screenshot from DotA.
In any case, the picture below and its caption really made me laugh when I saw it: “Imagine you’re damn serious pawning enemies while your team mate [is] lining up chickens to impress his girlfriend“.

I like this poem, not only because its premise hinges on Stephen King’s cultural sensibilities, but also because it asks a very important question:
What could be sadder … than a clown in need of a context?
Yes, there is nothing sadder than a clown searching for a context, and it is especially apparent in today’s world – we have so many people working in jobs that just don’t fit them, either because these people haven’t evolved to meet the needs of this era, or because they were the wrong people for the job from the very beginning.
