The rationale for and context of why I post up my grades can be found here and in older posts I’ve linked to (I’ve resurrected them from the old blog).

This is one of the things that has been bugging me since last night. I missed getting a PGDE (Distinction) by 0.03 grade points. It wouldn’t have mattered if not for two things:

It feels a bit like dressing up nicely for a night out at the theatre, getting there on time and getting ready to go in for a nice performance, only for you to dip your hand into your pocket and discover, to your horror, that you’ve left the tickets at home i.e. what a waste. (For context: you need to get a <del datetime="2009-06-04T02:45:36+00:00">Distinction</del> Credit for the Practicum module and a GPA of 4.5 to get the PGDE (Distinction). I got more than necessary for the former but missed out slightly on the latter.)

I made two separate choices earlier in the year to do two things, both of which I shall not mention because I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. On hindsight, these two choices were directly responsible for the shortfall of 0.03 grade points. It stings to realise this now. Nevertheless, I must be man enough to stand by my choices if I was man enough to make them in the first place with the benefit of knowing full well what might happen if I made those choices.

Anyway, my sincerest thanks go out to my NIE Supervisor and the staff (permanent and trainees) + students of Saint Gabriel’s. The Practicum Distinction is for and because of all of you.

~

Wow. Am I glad this sem is done and over with. It was one of the worst semesters ever – not academically, of course – the honour for that is wholly reserved for this sem, with all its various random nonsense and whatnot.

Anyway, I think this semester was just plain bad because of the six modules worth of stress that I had to cope with, among other things.

I seriously thought I was going to screw up very badly but I think these results are a pleasant surprise (a 4.17 CAP for this semester alone is still very nice, no? , and I’m quite happy with how things turned out, because it could seriously have been much worse. I envisioned major Bs everywhere but thankfully the damage was only inflicted on the modules I knew in my heart of hearts were terribly done.

Having said that, I think the only surprise for me came from both the modules I did with Prof Holden – EN3269 and UIS4912. I expected an A- from the former and a B from the latter because I really didn’t know what I was saying at the end when I submitted the ISM.

But I’m happy with the A- and I’m going to ask for a review on the EN3269 paper because I was scoring a solid A- all the way before the exam, which only accounts for 30 – 35% (can’t remember which) of the grade.

Nevertheless, I am looking very much forward to the next semester though, because I think it is going to be slightly less stressful as I am going back to doing five modules.

Plus I think my module choices next sem are very interesting, or rather, things that I will be really interested in – I’m hoping to do a Masters-level module called Politics and Literature, along with Advanced Playwriting.

Most importantly, I am gunning for that second-upper now because I think it is very much within my reach – I just need an A- average, which I have gotten before, and I know I can do it again.

Let’s go lah, next sem. I cannot wait to graduate

P.S. check out the movement of my CAP over the last seven semesters:

04/05, Sem 1: 3.75
04/05, Sem 2: 3.78 (3.88)
05/06, Sem 1: 3.75 (3.7)
05/06, Sem 2: 3.66 (3.4)
06/07, Sem 1: 3.75 (4.1)
06/07, Sem 2: 3.88 (4.5)
07/08, Sem 1: 3.93 (4.17)

Can see the marked fluctuations hor. I can give you a sem-by-sem analysis even with reasons why and how the CAP fluctuated. Anyway, what I want to see at the end is this:

07/08, Sem 2: 4.00 (4.5)

CAP: 3.66

oh my gosh, you must be wondering. how can anyone be so upbeat over such dismal results?

aiyah, i am disappointed, of course, but i think it could have been worse. i gave up on the exams and everything else after a certain point so i am just relieved that with this, the horrors of the last semester are finally over.

anyway, one thing i have learnt is that there will be no more back-to-back classes for me next semester cos i think it could have contributed to why i felt so screwed last semester:

i was perpetually late for the class which came after the first class of the day, which probably gave my tutors a bad impression of me, and

sometimes during the break in between classes in previous semesters, i would occasionally catch up on some reading so i would have a bit of a grasp on what was going on before going to the next class. didn’t really have a chance to do it this semester, for obvious reasons.

but the most important albeit tongue-in-cheek conclusion to what i have learnt from my results this semester would be: stay in hall is better than stay at PGPR! hehehehe

but but but: i so can sell The Kent Ridge Hall Experience to freshies next time! think about it: i have gone to the dark side and will be returning soon. i am how equipped to tell people about campus life lah!

ok ok i have to submit my article for the NDP 2006 very soon so stay tuned ladies and gentlemen, i will be back in better days!
